Welcome to Issue 18 (October 2010) of the SUPERIOR BOOK PROMOTIONS newsletter! I just attended the annual Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association fall meeting this past weekend. We had a small but enthusiastic gathering of members new and old, and as always at such meetings, I came away feeling energized and full of ideas. I am continually amazed by the combined talent, imagination, and cleverness of my fellow publishers and authors. Recently, I also helped to start the Writers Ink group here in Marquette so writers can get together to talk once a month about whatever topics concern or interest them. If you're a writer, join a group. I can't tell you how many benefits you will reap from it. If you can't find a group, start one yourself. Making friends with other authors and publishers is one of the best and most rewarding things you'll ever do. Keep writing, publishing, and reading! Tyler R. Tichelaar New BooksBritt Santowski is the voice of the new Unstoppable Woman. Bridging the gap between women of the past and present, from women who were victims to women who are successful and empowered, Santowski uses her personal story and that of many other successful women, along with practical examples, inspirational stories, and a good dose of shrewd common sense to enlighten women about the requirements for success. "The Three Strategies of the Unstoppable Woman" is that book women have long awaited—a surefire guide to finding the required balance in life that leads both to goal-achievement and happiness. Dr. Jeudi Boulom has learned the hard way the value and joy of having good health. After she and her family escaped suffering at the hands of the Khmer Rouge Regime in Cambodia, they made their way to the United States where they built a new life. From a country where she experienced hunger and malnutrition, Dr. Jeudi suddenly experienced American abundance and had to maneuver her way from filling her body with junk food to choosing healthy eating habits for herself and her family. That need for good nutrition was enhanced when her son became extremely ill; finding that the doctors were able to do little for him to keep him from having seizures, Dr. Jeudi researched and changed his diet so that today he can live a fairly normal life. As a successful chiropractor, Dr. Jeudi has continued to research wellness; in her new book she provides four key investment principles to creating a healthy life. Jan Huttenstine has captured the history of Upper Michigan's Whitefish Point, its Native American residents, early fishermen and lighthouse keepers, cranberry farmers and its maritime history in a way stylistically reminiscent of the great history books written in the mid-twentieth century with a lyrical and poetic prose matched by few historians today. Whether readers are residents of Whitefish Township or have never visited it, they will find themselves wholly engrossed in its history, written as if the author knew intimately ever person mentioned, and they will come to feel as if they have also walked the beaches, worked on the fishing boats, and harvested the cranberry crops of this area rich in history. Of course I can't review my own book, but I thought this was a good place to announce that "My Marquette: Explore the Queen City of the North—Its History, People, and Places" is now on sale on my website, Amazon, and bookstores throughout Upper Michigan. On my website you can read more about my latest book as well as view a few sample pages of it, including the Table of Contents. And be sure to check out my blog at www.tylerrtichelaar.wordpress.com where I'm posting excerpts from the book. To read more visit My Marquette.
